The winery was founded in 1947 by the Maculan family and is currently run by the third generation. Angela and Maria Vittoria manage the estate with their father Fausto. It is located in the Veneto region (North), in a place called Breganze. Breganze is about half way between Verona and Venice. A search for information on this tiny area of Italy will definitely lead you to Maculan as they are the ones that really put the region on the world map when it comes to wine.
Breganze has been growing and making wine from international grapes (French origin) since the 1800s. The French varietals have been in the area for so long that many now consider them “indigenous”.
Maculan makes a mix of reds and whites but are most famous for their sweet wines made from more traditional Italian grapes: Vespaiolo and Moscato. In addition, they have vineyards of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Gris, Tai, and Chardonnay.
